History
The Windy City is the third-largest city in the US, with over 2.7 million residents. It was officially incorporated in 1837, though it served as a port for several years before. Chicago gained prominence as an international hub in finance, commerce, and industry, and it is frequently credited as the transportation and rail center that allowed for the expansion of America. The city even has a distinct cultural history, with arts, novels, film, theater, jazz, and more.
Sports
Chicago has frequently been named the "Best Sports City" by Sporting News, and it is home to teams such as the Cubs, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bulls. Wrigley Field is considered a national landmark by many, and it gained even more prominence since the Cubs took the World Series in 2016-the first time since 1908.
Arts and Culture
For those looking for sophistication, look no further. Chicago has a distinct cityscape largely due to reconstruction after the infamous fire, and some of the iconic buildings include the Willis Tower (also called the Sears Tower), the Chicago Board of Trade Building, Fine Arts Building, and the Lake Shore Drive Apartments (designed by Mies van der Rohe). The Art Institute of Chicago is well worth a visit, as it is the second-largest museum in the US. It is home to Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte, Picasso's The Old Guitarist, and Grant Wood's American Gothic, among other prominent paintings.
